Going to b setting my 40 breeder up soon and I'm curious if I should be running my skimmer and my media reactor while the tank cycles?

I never have. I always just run the return pump and a circulation pump and heaters. No lights, no skimmer, no reactors. Once I'm on the tail end of the cycle I'll run the skimmer and start water changes.
    What media are you running?

Kind of like cooking the rock in the tank. Doing it this way you can even remove all the rock and dunk it in a series of buckets 2x/wk and run a filter sock for a few hours afterwards along with a bunch of power heads in the tank to kick up all the detritus. Do it bare bottom tho. Add sand afterward. Just a thought
