Change some water, check & make sure your heater or pumps are putting anything in the water, run some carbon

Good Luck & let us know if we can help

Is the water chemistry messed up, or is this related to your other post about your new MH lights? What are your water parameters right now?

If you need to stick you corals in an established tank while you sort out the details, I wil be around my Rock Island office that there is a little bit of room.

What kind of instrument are you using to measure your salinity?  Also, which brand of salt are you using?

i get my water premixed from AE and yeah its a floaty gauge. is it normal for zoas to have long stalks? i mean some of em or looking like eye stalks off a crab.

I would love to believe that everyone mixes their salt to the right SG. You should verify your SG with someone local just to make sure it is correct. Having calcium at 500ppm seems high for most salts so this leads me to suspect your SG is higher than 1.025 or 1.026; unless you are dosing calcium.

I do dose calcium 2 times a week.

mthomp, I'm not familiar with where you live but I would take some water into one of the local fish stores asap to have it tested. If you were close to Des Moines I would be happy to bring some test kits over to help test. My thoughts would either be your salinity is way off especailly since youre using a hydrometer or that one of your test kits might not be any good and your tests aren't accurate. Just try doing another BIG water change today and hopefully that will help them live longer at least.

It might be a good idea to take some water into AE and have them do a test on pretty much everything....or, maybe to another club member near you.

I guess I haven't noticed on your other threads....is it only the corals struggling? ...are the fish/inverts doing ok?
