I am considering getting a reefkeeper lite. Money isn't there for a higher end setup tight now, is it worth it to get the lite, or should I wait took next year to get the elite

Apex is what I recommend. I know when looking into any other controller a lot of reviews on selling them and buying the Apex.
You need to just figure out what you want it to run and what you might want it to run in future and go for it.

Bulk Reef Supply (BRS) has a video on Controllers (RK and APEX). You might find it helpful in making your decision :0) I went with an Apex (DT & 40B) and a RK lite(frag tank) :0)

All I really need is the heater control, and feed modes for the pumps. I have ATO and a timer in my lights. I like the price, but cringe at the cost of modules.

I would wait tell you can control it all. I would not waste your money. All that you have now can be ran buy any good controller. Wait tell you have cash I did and I am very happy I did.

You really have to look closely at the options when you are doing comparisons. Modules are expensive and will quickly kill any cost savings if you have to purchase them down the road. If you feel you would ever want network connections best bet is going with APEX. Even the low end models come standard with internet connectivity.

Is the net feature even worth while?

    absolutely.
remote monitoring of the tank is a great feature. Plus being able to set up e-mail alerts if there would happen to be any issues. All add to the piece of mind of being away from the tank.

The reason I ask is I only have access to the tank 4-6 days a month, my wife handles it when I am gone and she rarely away for more than a few hours. I don't run reactors, and don't plan on running them anytime in the future. I don't monitor ORP, or PH, the only thing I monitor is salinity, temp, and I have a ammonia badge. I guess I just wonder if I will ever use any features other than controlling my heater, powerheads and return pump.

That post isn't worded very well. I have a 55 gal fowlr with a single frogspawn and no plans on getting more coral anytime in the next 3-5 years. I have lights running off a timer now, and my next light set has a built in timer, fixed ballast, not dimmable. All I run on my tank is a 1000 GPH return pump, 2 powerheads, heater, and a Jbj ATO. I want something to run my heater, and give me a feed mode, that turns itself back on in 10 mins or so. Is there anything else I should be looking into that a controller could do for me? When I left the hobby, our controller was a cheap pin style timer on the lights, and a manifold on the air lines.
