A couple of weeks back, Craig
(xroads) said that if anyone has any fish that regularly
spawn, and is interested in breeding, let me know & we will be glad to help
    you out!
    I have a pair
of Yellow Stripe Maroon Clownfish for six
years now and they have not spawned yet. The female is about 2-1/2” to 3” and
the male is about a 1-1/2” to 2”. They usually only come out of their clay pot
to eat or nip at my hand when I am cleaning their tank. They are in a 29-gallon
tank by themselves because they are so aggressive. I do have one piece of live
rock and about 1-1/2” of live sand.
    Is it
beneficial to have sand, live rock, coral and some snails or crabs in the tank
or is it better to just have a bare tank?
    I also
have six black & white Ocellaris Clownfish. Two have shown signs of mating,
but nothing yet. How big and/or old do they have to be before they will mate?
Is it better to have tank mates or not?
Is there anything that I can do
    to help the process along?
    Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
     Joe

Slowly lengthen the light period so it is two hours longer then it is right now.

Feed more often, high quality foods.

Slowly raise the temperature to 80-81

I all ready raised the temperature from 78 to 80, but I do like the lengthen the light period. I feed them 4 times a day now, but all they will eat is flake food. Anything else just sits at the bottom of the tank.

    Thanks Craig.

My Perculas are breeding at 77 degrees on a regular basis. Anyone in the Iowa City area have a good batch of rotifers I could snag some from?? Otherwise I will just have to order them...unless Craig has some at the store.

I raised a couple batches about 3 years ago from this pair so I'm itching to get started again!

Have you had the male for 6 years too? He's only that big and you've had him for 6 years?! Seems like they should both be a bit bigger........Have you tried Rod's frozen food? I've never seen a fish turn that down and clowns in my experience are really not picky eaters. I would try switching to a better food. Flake food quickly loses its vitamins and nutritional value after opening, make sure to date it after you open it and refrigerate. I toss it(flake food) after 5-6 months and get new.

I had some Maroons that bred about two years ago. I had the lights on for 14 hours and a temp of about 76. They didn't breed for 3 years then I changed the food they were eating. I had a good variety of foods. I only gave them flakes once a day then pellets 2 times a day. Once a week I would try brine shrimp if I had them. They were in a 75 gal reef tank but never tried to raise the babies. The female was 5" and the male was about 2.5". Good luck.

I feed a ton and they are probably laying eggs about every 2-3 weeks like clockwork. /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif
