About four months ago my two clowns decided to host my carpet anemone. This was none too soon because the damn thing was eating my other fish in the tank. Those clowns just loved that anemone. They made sweet love to it non-stop.

The nice plump clowns began to get skinny. They never seemed to leave the anemone long enough to eat. Both of them looked like they were wasting away.

Then one day I woke up and the clowns were nowhere to be found. I looked everywhere. I looked at every angle I could and poked around, but the clowns were nowhere (my tank is 135gal).

Well, I thought the poor guys had either been eaten or died and became shrimp bait. But, two weeks later one of them showed back up from nowhere. The thing is still nested in the anemone at most times but does leave to eat with every feeding. I think it is actually starting to plump back up.

Where was it hiding for two weeks and is the other one still possibly hiding? It has been a month now since I have seen the second one. Is it gone for good or is this something that they do?

Good ideas about the overflows, it would be one heck of a jump for them but I looked in strainer, overflow box and sump...not even a skeleton. Maybe the anemone ate it?

It is so upsetting because they were a mated pair and now I only have one. Is there any chance if I introduce another to the tank it will mate with the one that is left?

They may or may not mate but will become a pair. I would first get the one you have healthy again as there may be some fighting for dominance female will always be the dominate and male will submit.
