Cleaning algae scrubber screen

    image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I found a new way to clean my screen. I took it out of my scrubber and placed it in my tank and my sea hare did an awesome job of cleaning it. It took him two days to clean. I think I will have to get another from bud so I can just exchange it out the next time .

    That's pretty cool. The only downside I can see is that there is no nutrient export that way.

    You have to clean the screen regularly anyways so why not again do it naturally instead of scraping off and throwing away .Plus it enables the pods that are in it to escape back into my tank

    So if they cleaned it spotless does it takes it 6 weeks to get the growth back again if so. Why?

    I would think it's better it wasn't rinsed out in sink water or anything of the such

    The point is that the nutrient export process of an algae scrubber is the physically remove the algae from the system and throw it away.

    The positive side is that just because your sea hares ate it doesn't mean it will just get 100% converted back to waste. A percentage of that consumed algae will be used for growth of the sea hares, but much of it will get re-converted to waste and will go back to feeding the scrubber.

    You might find that you have to run the scrubber a little harder. Remind me, which version do you have? Does it have the LED boards, or the individually mounted LEDs?

    Do you have the diffusers in place?

    How many hours/day do you run scrubber lights?

    Any N or P detectable?

    Any tank algae?
