Started my stand today for my 135 fowlr tank. I can't wait to get it up and running, just waiting on the new carpet to be installed.

Trying to get some ideas on some hanging lights for above the tank.

Well time to fill it up and test the stand and make sure we have no leaks

Looks great! It will be a very clean build. What kind of lights are you using above the tank? I'm sure that you could build a nice looking canopy as well and hide the lights inside of a canopy.

Thanks. I might still do a canopy haven't decided yet. Thinking about some t5s or evergrow leds.

Are you putting foam board between bottom of tank and wood?

I'm not really sure, I thought about it. My stand is very level. I have heard about people doing this with glass tanks and hadn't really heard of foam under acrylic.

From what I have read, acrylics should always be set on foam

+1 on the foam, I've heard acrylics must be on foam and its super cheap and easy to install. I think it has less to do with being level and more to irregularities in most wood or other surfaces causing a stress point. It's not an issue with glass because typically the bottom pane is suspended by the tanks frame. Preventing stress points.

If you're unsure on the foam I would ask the manufacturer before filling it with water. I know its common on tanks without a bottom rim, but I don't know if its both glass and acrylic.

I just got done putting maple sheeting around the stand and my trim was going to be only 1/4" above the top edge. How think of foam do I need? Will 1/8 to 1/4 inch be sufficient? The top is 1/2" plywood with 3 braces.

The tank never had foam under it before. Guess I don't see the need for it now.. My other acrylic tank don't have foam under them either.

Not sure what I'm going to do maybe 1/4 inch white foam from the craft store would be ok.

I wouldn't use EPS (white foam) it has a tendency to crumble.. Maybe a pink or blue foam since it has a higher density.

From reading other sites, the need for foam is definately debateable. I bought mine at Lowes. It came in 4x8 sheets and was inexpensive.

It's tough to spend a bunch of money on a piece of foam that I only need 72x18 of. Im going to check a couple construction sites to see if they have any pieces around.
I may not use it all we'll just have to see.
