Tank Build! 120 Gallon Build

Well I have a 120 full of Sps upstairs. Now I am doing another 120. This one will be full of killer LPS.

Plans for this are:

Tank: Marineland 120 corner overflow 48x24x24
Lighting: ATI Dimmable 8 bulb 36 inch Sunpower with blue reef bites attached.
Bulb Combo: 6 Giesemann Super Actinic, 2 ATI Blue plus. 36 inch blue Reef Brite strip front and back.
Skimmer: Reef Octupus, can't remember model. Will update.
Sump: 40b glass baffles. Refugium first section, sponge block 2nd, 3rd skimmer, 4th return/Ato.
Return: Jeabo 6000
Ato: Tune Osomolator 3155
Refugium: Deep sand bed around 4 inches. Light will be 6500k led flood light, maybe 2. Macro algae will be mostly display types. Like dragons breath, blue octodes???? Maybe not sure on name. Some string of pearls, and mangroves to start.
Rock: Walt Smith 2.1 rock.
Sand: the heavy grade carib-sea sand. 1-2 inch bed
Flow: 3- Mp10s. 2 to start maybe add a 3rd.
Doser: I am undecided on that. Probably BRS 1.1 ml dosers.
No controler.
No reactors
Gonna try to keep this tank simple.

 

Gonna be EPIC!! Skimmer is Reef Octopus Classic 150int 6"

 

This will not be a fast build. Gonna take my time on rock scape and let it stay without corals for as long as I can stand it to let tank stabilize any mature a but before I tear down my 40b full of LPS.
I am gonna try the epoxy Craig suggested for my rock scape. Probably gonna do 75-100 lbs. Of rock. Doing a good assortment of Lps. Chalice, acan, favia, lepto, torch, hammer, frog spawn, duncan, and whatever else catches my eye.
Fish: Black Tang, Onyx-Picasso pair, a couple fairy wrasses, some flasher wrasses, and not sure about anything else.
Cuc: a few hermits, some cerith, nassarius, and few others. Need some other sand stirrers to.

I am sure I left some stuff out but just wanted to start the thread so I can update regularly and post a few pics to keep it interesting. I pickup tank, skimmer, return tomorrow so pics will be coming

curses! I was planning on doing something like this (LPS related) but you beat me to it! And you get to have another 120 build me a bigger house so I can have a 120!

 

Lol. I am definitely not a home builder. Just do a 40b or a cube LPS display. I like cube builds. But this 120 came up and I couldn't pass it up.

But the guy that was supposed to ship the light today flaked out on me and refunded my money. Damn it.... O well, plan B.
I have a non dimmable 6 bulb old style ATI 36in 6 bulb power module with reef brite. It should do the trick. It's on my 40b now. I wanted to do a slow livestock transfer so I may have to rig up another light during transition. O well.

The back and bottom already painted black. Saves me a little work. And I really like the single corner overflow. Much better than my dual off center overflow tanks. Lots better aqua scaping options. That's it for now.

 

Knowing you this tank will be awesome. Following along.

Thanks. Hope it turns out good. Gonna try and keep this one simple and low maintenance. We will see how it turns out.
O. Yeah. There will be a couch placed directly in front of tank so I can sit and chill in front of tank.

 

It is going to be a 90 cube actually. I'm going to follow along and steal all your good ideas so we can compare notes later

 

Would a golden head sleep goby be a good sand stirring fish or not enough sand?

 

I personally don't like the yellow head. They like to get a mouth full of sand and go to mid tank height and spit it out, usually in front of a power head. Big mess.

I personally like the diamond spot goby. Usually stays within an inch of sand and really do a good job of turning the sand bed over. I run 1-2 inch sand bed and I have never had any problems keeping my diamond spot alive. I wouldn't put one in a newer tank he will starve. I waited about 6 months to add mine.

 

Should be some action here at end of the week. Glass baffles for sump will be done Thursday, epoxy for aqua scape coming Thursday. Rock will be at my house when I get home. I will take pics as I go.
Gonna touch up some paint on stand tomorrow night.
I think I am gonna replace the original bulk heads with new ones since it will be easy to do and peace of mind.

How deep of a sand bed does everyone use? Mine are usually around 1-1.5 inch range. But may go a bit deeper on this one, I am still undecided.

 

Where did you get the glass baffles? I usually run mine a couple inches deep. But my pistol shrimp has decided that one side of my tank needs to be about 3 to 4 inches deep.

 

Got glass cut at Steve's Mirror & Glass. They cut to order. Last time I had baffles cut it was $10 and change. This one will be around $15. Gonna pickup tomorrow.
My diamond spot goby does same as your pistol shrimp. He rearrange the piles where he wants them. Some are 4 inches deep and bare in spots.

 

+1 on the diamond goby. I love mine and he does his job well.
