Very nice Ray First I would take it outside and clean it with vinegar/hot water. That will keep Jen happy with the nice hard wood floors :) First baffle with socks / Second baffle ref. / Third baffle live rock / fourth baffle return pump. But that is just me. One hell of a sump

I would imagine, that is one beast of a sump. What a good purchase! So its going under a 250g display, what is your plans with the display tank and what equipment are you thinking of running in the sump?

We' re kinda moving a bit slow with the display . My wife is going to place and drill rock . She wants to make sure that things don't fall down in tank when filled up with water. We're both short , so it would be a pain to get into tank to fix the landscape. Lol. We been buying rock and bought more sand. Buying a new pump . Just bought Maxspect razer led. For the lighting . Going to be running our somewhat new octopus skimmer. Bio pellets , rock filtration, refugium So far. Any other ideas will be great .

Slow is good when setting up a big tank like that, I sure took my time with mine. Sounds like you're pretty well set. What model reef octopus is it? You have so much space that you can add anything extra later on as needed(carbon or gfo reactor). You planning on calcium reactor or dosing pumps? The only other thing that might be neat to work into the mix would be an algae scrubber.

I used 2x6 studs. to brace it up. its 1 inch thick acrylic. didn't want to trap water in between sump and plywood. figured I had enough support. I weigh 235 and I stood in it. u think I should add a sheet?

No I meant under the sump. You can't shouldn't put any acrylic tank directly over a gap between supports, you need full support under it. For a sump it's not so critical so 1 layer of 3/4" is OK and maybe even a thin (1/4" to 1/2") sheet of foam insulation board (blue/pink board) and for an acrylic display tank, you 100% for sure want a perfectly flat top grid of support and two 3/4" plywood sheets.

Ya I Agree on the Acrylic display tank should have a 100% support under it. when we had ours it bowed really bad in the front from the pressure of the water, I couldn't imagine the bottom of it with all the rock. That would be a ticking time bomb. with the pressure. would be one hell of a explosion!!

with 1" thick base it's probably not as much of a concern as there won't be much propensity to bow under pressure (esp since it's not that tall) but it's still a very good idea, because it will still bow. Since there is no rim on the sump, it's a bit less rigid. It's the "ounce of prevention" rule. Also the plywood will even out the support points, it's very difficult to get the 2x6 grid dead on flat and perfect, which can result in the tank not sitting in full contact. The plywood takes that out of the equation. If you screw the plywood down to the 2x6s and then set the tank on it, you might notice that it is not as even/flat as it appears. Then you shim a bunch until it's pretty good, and the thin sheet of foam takes care of the rest.

Most acrylic manufacturers do not recommend putting an acrylic tank on foam because it compresses and does not bounce back. So if you have a ton of rock in the middle and this pushes down on the bottom, it's going to push down on the foam and permanently compress it and bow - less than it would box if there was nothing there, but still a bow. Ideally, you want a sheet of 1/4" neoprene, which compresses everywhere and form-fits (and decompresses) but $$$$.

As far as water + plywood, paint it with 2 coats of oil based paint to seal it. Which you should do to the framing anyways, to keep it from long-term rot (all of it in the sump area)
