This is inspired by some negative comments I've read (and received) on other forums, but I feel inspired to share it on GIRS. I also feel the need to express my gratitude to GIRS for not having the negative comment culture that can often plague a forum! Way to go GIRS!
Now to provide my rant: I'm not sure why people are sometimes so urged to leave "smart" or "sarcastic" remarks. It's good to have helpful, thought out, & critical comments rather than ones that are picking on folks & outright criticizing them. Where would the hobby be if people became unwilling to ask very basic questions because other people might think it's "stupid"? Yes, there have been times I've unintentionally hurt somebody with the wording of my comment but never have I intentionally provoked somebody with a negative comment. Please be kind with your questions, comments, suggestions, and corrections. You know how disappointing it can be to someone searching for help to get hit with negativity? No, nobody ever really does since we all sit behind the keys sometimes 1000's of miles apart, often knowing nothing about the lives of the ones we direct our language toward. Remember that not everybody has the same amount of experience, help, and money at their disposal. Many of us probably wouldn't choose the same words if we were face to face. Always be sure to read previous comments on the thread the best you can & relate to the original reason for the thread. Choose your wording carefully, as not everybody brushes off negativity well, or finds sarcasm amusing. Sarcasm especially has little place for the online world unless positive and marked with **sarcasm intended** or similar indication. Be good people! Be good! :D

Well stated. I have noticed over the last year the negativity has been toned way down.

Very well said. I won't say that some negativity doesn't pop up on here from time to time, but for the most part the members of this forum and this club are a very helpful group of people. And usually any negativity is squashed quickly by the more helpful members.

Couldn't agree more, all the Facebook groups are terrible nowadays, so it's nice to have a place where you can get honest opinions and answers

Very well said and I couldn't agree more. I think part of the culture here on Girs is the Idea of "face to face" Local meeting and greeting one another in Monthly meetings throughout the year. In the summer its hard to get everyone together, because of summer fun of course. That being said we have fun with each other every now/Then and leave smart or funny comments to each other. lol

Jeez Justin... what a goober.... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/wink.gif

but surely this is extremely true! It's actually one of the reasons I no longer post on RC. Everyone seems to want to be the first to tell you how dumb you are or how Tribble your idea is. .. just sad!

The comment about FB groups does give me hope for forums. I've seem other forum admin discussions where it is mentioned that there has been a drop in membership & because of the rise of skype / Facebook / etc. this community is a good one. Pretty rare actually too

I tend to stay away from forums where the negative comments and non-helpful posts run rampant. I don't see a reason for it. Granted the "old timers" on those forums have seen the same questions asked over and over again, but so what. It usually takes just as long to post some stupid comment about "use the search button" as it does to answer the question or point the OP over to a good thread on the subject. If you're not going to be helpful, then don't post IMO. Besides this forum I tend to browse through Reef2Reef a lot. It contains a lot of good information, and the owner and "staff" do a good job of keeping it a friendly place that people want to be a part of.

I am part owner of a truck forum, and from the beginning it has been "be nice or be gone". We don't allow the flaming and negativity that seems to be on so many of the other automotive forums, and we encourage members to post helpful replies to any thread, and highly discourage "use the search button" as a reply. As a result we get a lot of positive feedback which is always nice to see.
