Ok lights are in. I think I am happy with it, but if anyone has any suggestion I will listen and learn. Also I am new to MH so I a have a question. Do they hum a bit? Also the back and top to my Canopy are all open will this be ok for air to keep everything cool or should I just watch it and go from there? Lighting is two 150w MH centered over the two sides then to 36" Atanics and these are one in front and one in back. I wish I would have taken pictures of the inside before putting back on tank, but I was just in the zone. I do some of my finest work when its just zone in and forget everything else. Love DIY and on to Sump... Here are some pictures of my progress: Atanic Dual 150MH Thanks Kylie they are great... 150w MH are 9" from top of tank: Open top view: Left side Right side |

Are you going to run the filter sock as shown in the first picture of the above post? |

That's the plan, but I am thinking its too high. I am unsure where the thing is suppose to be so that is what I came up for now. Can the sock be submerged? I will have live rock in with Skimmer so I may do away with sock. I can't find anything online about where it needs to be placed.

I wouldn't do that because those things fill up/clog and overflow within a few days = mess all over your floor. Trust me, I've been there done that! :/ |

Mine is half submerged, but it can no longer spill out of the tank. They work better not submerged, but with space, I have no choice. |

I started to think about that as i was building the box. I think maybe I should lower my first baffle and then just put the sock on the rim with the top of the box. That will suck, because I have it so nicely sealed in but thats ok I guess. I am figuring things out as I go along. Its just I could find nothing on where to place these things. Also will I need one with a Refug? |

Ok this is what I came up with... I cut the Drain side baffle down 2" and took the box part off the Sock holder. I think this will work much better. In a few pictures there is a box around Skimmer, but I didn't put that in. I am going to put live rock here and I put the one side of the sock box there to kind of play around with that are and see if I could inclose it off. Here it is from back side put in Cabinet. There is only one bad thing I did.lol Can you spot it or at least that I care about. I think this design will do well. Thanks Kyle |

You are still asking for a flood trust me. You need to have the bracket that holds the filter sock below the rim. What I would do (and have done for 2 separate tanks) is make the horizontal part of the filter sock holder the width of the inside dimension of the lip of the rim (the narrowest measurement) and then solvent weld (acrylic) or silicone (glass) a strip for it to 'hang' on the trim. This way if the sock overflows, it is guaranteed to dump into the sump Also you want the brackets to only be along the long sides - let the end be open (no bracket). The way you have it, if the water overflows it only need to pool up about 1/32" before it runs over the rim - and it will. Although with the nylon sock it probably won't ever overflow, from what I've heard at least. I have a few (looks like a Caribbean) but haven't tried them yet. the 200 micron takes a while to clog, the 100 micron fills much faster. You will probably end up using the 100s eventually. Nice job on the sump |
