I was bored and thought I would snap some pics of the tank being its been forever.  Long story short, i need to really scape the glass.  I tried hitting it with a pad quick but apparently there is some super hard green algae growing that will only come off with a blade.  I did manage to get a couple shots though.  Maybe tomorrow I'll get the razor blade out and start scrappin'.

wow just beautiful.

Thanks guys. I now have nearly 50 varieties of corals mostly of which are of the "higher end" variety along with a few old favorites. This week I am going to start monitoring daily alk and ca consumption so I can figure out a daily dosing regiment. Most of my frags are small but considering there are so many I am sure they are using up quite a bit on a weekly basis.

Eventually, I would like to set up an automatic dosing system but for now manual will be the way to go. This will be my first time ever dosing anything other than Mg and am curious to see if it will affect my growth rates.

Well, time to bust out the razor blade and start scrapping the glass so I can get some better photos.

Note to self, when aquascaping, make sure you have plenty of room between the rock and glass so you can keep the glass clean.

Why is it when ever you move a rock you can NEVER get ti back in the same exact spot you had it ?

The glass is clean but now my rock looks funky. Oh well.

Practice!  When i shoot my tank I always shoot in macro mode for one.  I also tend to do a lot of zooming in and out while half pressing the photo to be sure my object is in focus.  I also take a TON of pictures and just keep the best ones.  Another "trick" is make sure your glass is SPOTLESS!!!  Otherwise your camera tends to want to focus on the scum growing on your glass and not the coral on the other side.  For some of those shots I used my cheapo underwater camera bag.  It's really tough to get good pics with but you get a couple good ones out of 20 or so.

I really wish I had a better camera mine is just a cheapo canon p&s, I guess it works OK, but I would really like something else someday.

If you look at the top of this forum I have a thread tacked at the top.  It has some really good tips and tricks.

Never tried a magnifying glass. That would be tough to setup I would think.

Few questions, what is your maintenance schedule. How often do you do water changes, and how much water do you change. Just wondering I have been doing larger water changes like 15g a week, but that was do to mine was going throw the start up cycle. Now I have been thinking of doing a 5g change every one to two weeks depending on parameters.

Thanks Troy. Maintenance is pretty relaxed on this little tank but due to a fairly large bioload I do try and do weekly or bi-weekly 5 gallon water changes depending in nitrates. Water changes are pretty simple, I just fill one 5 gallon bucket with tank water and then add premixed saltwater with another. That way I do EXACTLY 5 gallons. I even have my buckets marked so I'm always taking and adding in equal portions. Other than water changes the maintenance is basically the same as my large system was, just on a smaller scale. It's kind of funny really, in a way this little tank takes more work than my old system.

I really like this little setup but I think in a couple years I am going to have to upgrade a tad. I will probably go with a a rimless cube of some sort with a hanging fixture.

Tank is looking good! Nice to see the nano tanks can hold their own and makes me miss mine. I do have to agree with you on the maintenance part of them being pretty equal to a larger system somewhat. Smaller portions but a little more effort going into it to keep that water pristine!

I like the bio-cube maintenance, only because water changes are only 5g vs 50. But agree that you spend about the same amount of time on it. By the way do you have a link for the underwater lights that you used in the first chamber. I liked the idea of the CPR fuge, but don't think it will work safely. So I am thinking of doing a fuge in the first chamber
