well I said I would never do it but I switched the display to LEDs. It's been about two weeks and so far so good. Corals haven't skipped a beat. My beanch mark for success will be alk and calcium consumption. I dose two part so I know exactly what my tank consumes. If it drops off then I know the corals aren't growing as rapidly as with the halides. Just figured I would also post pics of a couple smaller corals and update this thread monthly with pics of the same corals.

Up first is acropora Tera del fuego

Next is reef nation ghost tort

    Acropora nasuta

Acropora plana and his little known green beans buddy behind him.

    Will try to update monthly.

Lol the heat off of those 400w Radiums was a killer in the summer man. If the LEDs don't work out I'm going to try a Ati power module.

Very nice Bill - look forward to seeing the progress.

From what I've experienced and been able to research the LEDs from China do as well as any high-end set without the price tag and as always general husbandry is the most important factor in growth and color.

If you do go t5. Get the sunpower. It's cheaper and just as good. You can always add led strips. Reefbrites bolt right up. No drilling required.

31in have them set at 75% blues and 50% on whites. Par at this setting is comparable to my 400w halides and to the eye looks like 20k.

Ive found the cheap led boxes are ok but they dont compare to the higher end boxes when it comes to things like blending and shimmer, i couldnt stand the disco ball look of the cheap boxes. My kessil ap700 looks just like a set of halides without the heat

These lights have zero disco ball effect what so ever. They have a slight shimmer but nothing like halides. But the shimmer means nothing to me. Other than the shimmer these are indistinguishable from my halides to the naked eye.

If I do decide to stay LEDs long tearm I will get better ones than these eventually.

What is your PAR reading at the bottom of your tank Bill? My cheapo LEDs are brighter than the MH I was using (according the the PAR meter) and I have zoas stretching to the max.

I set it to about 800-900 at the surface and I'm getting 250-300 on the bottom.

If it is the apogee 200 the readings on leds will be quite a bit lower than actual par
