    I’m definitely interested in tangs to help clean up the inevitable algae in my new tank, but these look a bit big for my 32g nano

    Yes, they are. There is no Tang that should be kept in a 32 gallon. Some of the smaller bristletooth tangs can be kept in smaller tanks, and by smaller, I mean 70+ gallons.
