I tried purple up once and was not impressed by it. Maybe I wasn't dosing right.

Purple up is just a calcium supplement. Way overpriced for what you get. Buy or diy some two part and save yourself a ton of cash. Dosing pumps are the way to go.

Coraline just needs adequate light and alk. You probably dont even need live ock to seed it, but it may help.

Purple up is just a Calcium supplement that really works and I would stick by it. You must have the algae spores in your tank. Ether with rock or scrapings. Most Live rock has it on it, but just waiting for the right conditions to grow well. Good lighting and alk are just some of what is need to grow it. I have found that Purple up works well to accelerate the growth of it very quickly.

Good luck and just try it keeping an eye on your calcium too to make sure its not to high, but if you add it once a week you should be fine.

If you keep calcium levels high, a product like purple up really adds nothing. Google " randy holmes-farley purple up" (Randy is the preeminent chemist in the hobby) for a breakdown. I'm not trying to be argumentative Kyle, but this hobby is rife with gimmicks that intend to fleece new hobbyists, this is no different. I abhor it. Many people myself included get good coraline growth without it-that should say something...

Fwiw djvanzuuk, I try not to add anything I cant measure, you risk killing your tank (full disclosure, I do add iron in small amts when my blue goni looks unhappy- a waterchange would probably be better in that case, but takes a lot more time). Waterchanges and ca, alk and mg are all you really need.
