My 40 has a leak so I am getting a new tank. My question is can i use my existing sand? It's 3 months old and I have done some searching but found conflicting answers. Thanks!

Yep just vac it as you drain the tank to get the detritus out.

Thanks for the responses! Plan is to use my existing sand, fill new tank with water, put rock in, add existing sand, and then transfer livestock over. Does that work? Will I get a mini cycle if my live rock is immediately transferred to new tank from existing tank?

I am planning on transferring to a new tank soon also, My research said to expect a mini cycle but all alive should be ok.

P.S. I am putting rock in first then sand so the rock is on the bottom and shifting sand will not cause it to be unstable. Then water and critters.
