I'm thinking about trying the hw tracetip two part elements and i'm looking for a second opinion. I've heard that this two part is a more natural way, because not all the elements are in one bottle so it has a better reaction when meeting in the tank.

I'm not sure on this please let me know what you think

    Thanks

I guess let me ask why you think you need trace elements?

Is your tank packed full of sps and water changes arent enough?

Have you sent a sample to AWT or Triton to verify?

I have seen alot of people add trace elements and actually do more harm then good.

I personally don't use ANY additives.

I do keep some calcium (calcium hydroxide) and alk (sodium bicarbonate) on hand to increase those levels as needed.

Otherwise I think most of them are snake oil.

I use Nualgi as an additive. I noticed my coral improved significantly. I cannot speak to the long term effects or assure you that your corals will react the same way. Others have much more experience with a larger variety of corals than I do. But Nualgi might be worth checking into...

    Thanks for the posts

I have heavily stocked tank (sps, lps) and i'm doing very consistent water changes weekly. I use reef crystals so i know i'm getting my needed additives there but my some of my sps are looking brown and i wondered if i shouldn't try some other additives besides kalk. I looked at both HW tracetip two part and Red Seas coral colors ABCD just two see if they could give my coral the added color that i want.

I agree on doing more harm than good and some being snake oil
but that's why i'm on here asking before i go and start using it or if i even need any at all. I really value everyone's info

    Thanks everyone

If you can't test it, don't add it.

If you are doing regular water-changes, I would think your money would be better spent on something else.
I think those trace element supplements have a place for tanks that don't get water changes, but for those that do, it is probably unnecessary.
With that said, unless you test for all of those trace elements, it's really hard to say if it's worth trying.

The only proven additive for coral colors is amino acids.

Also check your potassium level. Salt mixes are light on it and corals use it alot.

What's a good potassium level for a mixed reef? Thanks.

Only additive I used was Seachem Fuel really liked it and did 20% water changes every other week I use to add additives with trace elements and did more harm than good I'm a firm believer in just doing regular water changes I've seen some of the most amazing tanks and that is all they do and keep it simple
