    August Meeting Minutes

We had 7 Members and 3 guests at the Aug. meeting.

Roger Carter started the demo for recharging your own DI resin then we started the discussion of items on the agenda. He also brought Phytoplankton for those who wanted to have some. Thank you Roger for this.

We talked about advertising on Craig’s List to promote our region for GIRS to try and get new members, possibly placing an ad in the Penny Saver which a lot of areas get and next year maybe having a table set up at the Pigeon Show in Burlington (like a flea market) with flyers and members to help promote the region. We are up to 18 Members as of right now.

Next we had all member (other than myself since I am trustee) place nominations for the Assistant Trustee. Roger Carter was the only one nominated and he accepted the position. Congrats to Roger Carter for becoming our new Regional Assistant Trustee for Burlington.

The next meeting was set up for Sept. 20, 2014 at 3:00p.m. at Bill & Heather Schlarbaum’s home. Bill will being doing a Fragging Demo. We decided to have members bring corals that they want to frag, but Bill has asked to let him know what you plan on bringing so he can make sure he has the right supplies ready. We discussed to possibly having a fragging kit as the door prize.

The Oct. meeting is scheduled for Oct. 25, 2014 at 2:00p.m. Roger and Cindy Carter’s home. We will have the meeting then have been welcomed to stay for their annual Halloween party afterwards. Sounds like it will be a great evening.

We decided not to have an actual meeting for Nov. due to the GIRS Fall Fest in Cedar Rapids which is Nov. 15,2014 11:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. We will be carpooling to this event. I will be driving for sure since I like to get there for when they open doors and stay until the end for the raffle. So if you want to go for the whole time and want to ride with my let me know. I will have room for 3 people.

For Dec. we will have the Christmas Party on Dec. 14, 2014 at Joe and Angela Hall’s home. Time will be posted at a later date. Thank you to the both of you for letting the region have the party there. It will be a pot luck so everyone will be asked to bring a dish. We will be playing the Dirty Santa Gift Exchange. Each member/guest that would like to participate to bring a LPS, SPS or Dry Good (price range of $15-$20) and have the sack marked as such. The trustee will have the rules typed up and posted at a later date.

We discussed the remaining budget of $109.95 being used for the Sept. and Oct. door prizes cost being around $25 for each meeting and and the remaining eing used for the Christmas Party. The members that were at this meeting think the Christmas door prize should be one big prize verses several small prizes.

Congratulations to Bill Schlarbaum for winning the door prize. The door prize was a TDS Meter since this was a demo on recharging your own DI resin. Bill also brought a frag to be used as a door prize and Chlora Beiner won this. Thank you Bill for the donation for the other door prize.
