This march wait is killing me. It is like wanting to buy a new iPhone, but hearing tantalizing rumors that the new, much better thing is coming right up! I will wait, though. I really like the idea behind the algae scrubber, though. Just a few more months, for the iScrub 5s!

Jbmartelle I was wondering if you could post some pics of your setup. It sounds like it has worked for years for you and would be interested more in it. And another thing is it seems they are more rectangular. Is there a reason to this or can it be square?

It is all based on the form factor of the light source. Square is fine if you can light it right, this usually means CFL with a dome or DIY square reflector (one on each side) or DIY LED.

you mean the e-shine ones? You have to go to their site and chat with a rep and place the order in a completely weird way via e-mail. And read this thread so you know what to expect

Well I tried to ask about whether the e-shine fixture could be re-used in the new scrubber coming out and the answer I got was "it'll be your design" so I take that as a Yes. Which means I will likely be building at least a few of these before the new design comes out.
