Ok , I got a nice little mandarin the other day and he has been as happy as a pig in @#$!#$#$. So when I go to bed last night I see he is a little to near the pistol shrimp cave entrance. i Hear a snap , snap , snap. This morning my mandarin is pistol shrimp food. Is this what is happening to the cave fish I keep getting. They all die with in a couple days and are healthy.Bodies are hardly ever seen. The clown is fine and corals are all growing sps included. There are pods over flowing in my tank and tea was eating regular food as well. So is it just coincidence or is the pistol murdering my fish. If so He must go. |

Im not going to say it isnt so but with my experience with pistols (candy cane and a tiger which was almost 3 in) ive never had a problem with them and a mandarin has been with both along with a scooter., both shrimp had ywg (yellow watchmen gobies) with them. not sure if that would make a difference. i also feed them well chopped squid. if you decide to remove good luck, you may get lucky with a trap but may have to remove all rock.

I just thought it was to much of a coincidence that only the cave dwelling fish would die but the clowns are fine. I think it will be hard to catch the little guy anyway.

If you want to get rid of the shrimp, you could always get a flame hawk. He'd make short work of a peppermint shrimp.
