    Do you supplement your tank?

    With what?

    Why?

What are your favorite products to supplement with?

    Thanks! Kylie

I top off with kalk via jbj ato. I dose brs 2 part these two things maintain my calcium and alk. I run WM Ecobak bio pellits in a kent reactor this maintain my po4 at 0.00 and my no3 a 0. I also dose a small amount of vite c and some MB7.

Here throw this in as well-

    I do 20% every 3 weeks...actually 15 gallons.

I used to do 5g/week which equals the same amount but I have better luck with a larger volume - some would say it doesn't matter.

There really isn't a "golden rule" for water changes - whatever seems to work the best for you!

there are awesome tanks that don't have water changes, some tanks have major changes, you'll find just about every option out there.  Newer tanks need more as they establish and it will vary based on feeding, skimming, supplements, bio-load, etc.

I supplement with kalk for top-off that includes vinegar, dose vodka, change water & have fish for the food (poop)...thinking about adding phyto as well.

I found this funny from the site:

    "Suggested Use
As a dietary supplement, mix 1/4 teaspoon or more into a glass of juice or water. Take with or without meals, or as directed by a licensed health care professional.
    "

Where's it mention dosing a reef!  Maybe I should contact them for advice...

Troy - how much do you dose of vitamin C?

    Thanks!

    Kylie,

I don't know what Bill doses in his top-off, but what do you need to accomplish?

From a different thread it sounds like you are adding quite a few corals to your system right now so your need for calcium will change fairly dramatically over the next week (from what it has been recently) until it settles into a normal pattern.

Have you checked your Calcium levels?
    What about pH & Alk?

All of these are affected by using Kalk in the top off water and I would assume from the pictures that Bill has quite a need for calcium in his system, but I believe he has an additional source for Ca (might be wrong).

As you determine what you need, you can use this calculator to determine how much "saturated" kalk would be needed to obtain the results, paying attent to both the pH & Alk so it doesn't spike:

    http://reef.diesyst.com/flashcalc/f...hcalc.html

I like using kalk as I have issues with both pH & Alk staying lower so it works for me but it can cause issues if not monitored.

I think a few things I could be doing better are more closely maintaining my calc and kH. Never are my lvls bad, but between tests they range a bit so I need to learn how to maintain an even amount through my ato. I do supplement with phyto both for my corals and to try and keep my copepod population up for my scooter (who eats mostly rods fish eggs but still..).

How does the vitamin C benefit the aquarium?

I use bulk reef supply 2 part, recipe 1 to keep calcium and alk up. recipe 1 tends to raise your ph a little which is what most people use. Recipe 2 tends to lower your ph. I also use coral accel from kent marine once in a while to give my corals a little boost.
