No I thought whomever wants to make it up to my house can meet somewhere in Des Moines at 10 and car pool up to my place to arrive about 11. This time frame can be adjusted if people want to go earlier or later. That should put us back in Des Moines about 12:30 or 1:00 to begin the rest of the tour.

Who is coming to my place to start it off?

Would anyone like to volunteer to drive for the Carpool?

I know this is none of my business as I will be at the Waterloo tour on the same day, but I would lower the amount of tanks to 3-4. Set the rest as a early December or January tour. Trust me anything over 4 is a little much for one day. That also allows you time to sit at each house and ask questions about how and why things were done. Each tank typically should have 45 mins to 1 hour on site time. At least that is what has worked in the past. We tried to do 6 one time and it was a mess trying to keep the group moving and everyone felt rushed, it wasn't as fun.

Thanks Travis, we appreciate any advice. That is actually our plan. I have just been waiting for all the members who want to sign up to sign up. Next week I will put out a recommended list of tanks to visit this time based on proximity, time and the "coolness" factor. Thanks again for the help!

I'd like to see your tank Joel, but a 12:30 or 1:00 start time works better for my schedule.  So, I'm planning to join the tank tour in Des Moines, for the afternoon's tour.

Dave, I am going try to get the final plans together this week. Times, tanks and food. I would think that burgers, dogs and brats would be the way to go. Do you want to try to get a head count and then have people bring a few bucks at the time or should we stop at the store on the way?

You can pencil me in tentatively for attending. I haven't participated much in a long time but I'm trying to get my tank back in shape and get myself interested again.

Welcome Chris, it will be great to finally meet you. Dave, I think you can use 11 as your rough number, but assume maybe a few won't be able to come. So maybe shoot for 8 or 9. We will try to get confirmation as we get closer.

Please respond here if you are going to commute to Boone to see my tanks. Also, who is willing to drive to my place? I think Jeremy (Nykademus) has volunteered thus far.

OK, here is my proposed schedules for the events. Let me know if anyone suggests any changes, nothing in stone yet.

Water Chemistry Discussion - Date: Tuesday October 21st Time: 6:30 PM Place: 8665 Harbach in Clive
gb387 (Brandon)
mnballard (Matt)
Nykademus (Jeremy)
jtesdall (Joel)
beckerj3
(Jeanette)

I will prepare some slides based on Randy Holmes Farley's articles to get the discussion started. Those who have questions or thoughts they would like to discuss please reply here so I can add them to the topic list. I am thinking of preparing a small raffle or maybe giving some frags away if more people sign up. No Dave it won't be the watermelon Challice. ;0)

Tank Tour - Date: Sunday October 26th Time: 10am

Attendees
tibbs2 (Chris)
ryansholl (Ryan #1)
gb387 (Brandon)

zltful (Ryan #3)
Cagri
billbigsbe1 (Dave)
neilsen2773 (Ryan #2)
Beckerj3 (Jeanette)
Nykademus (Jeremy)
Cowdust9 (John)
jtesdall (Joel)

Tanks on the Tour and Schedule
10 AM -
meet at Menards Parking lot in Ankeny to Carpool at 10am to Boone
11 AM - Jtesdall (Joel) north of Boone , leave at 11:30-11:45
1:00 - nielsen2773 (Ryan) in Ankeny
2:00 - Cagri in Urbandale
3:00 - Double-J (JJ) in Urbandale
4:00 - billbigsbe1 (Dave) in Altoona/Pleasant Hill with a cookout afterward.

Too many tanks no time. I apologize for having to cut a few tanks from the tour, it was going to get too late, especially since schedules never seem to hold true. We can have another tour later in the year if we want.

I do, indeed, have room for a couple of people if anyone would like a ride up to Boone. Its not a large vehicle, so I am afraid that there will only be room for 2 more and still keep people comfortable, but the offer is out there.

Dave, how are we doing the cookout? Are we bringing our own burgers/hotdogs or would you like us to bring side dishes, or both? I just want to be prepared correctly. As long as nobody has any objections I may also be bringing some homebrew with me for folks to try if they like. It needs to be tested, again , but should be fully ready by then.

How am I to get any pity frags if my tank is not on the tour Joel?   Just kidding

You can mark me down for the water chemistry meeting too. If people were interested, maybe some of us could bring water samples and refractometers and we could test peoples water, make sure our refractometers are accurate and calibrate them if they need to be.

Chris

Looking forward to meeting some of you locals that I haven't met before.

Jtesdall, I think I met you at that equipment auction we had awhile back. May have been last year.

Hmmm, I don't remember an equipment auction. Chris are you going to meet at 10 to commute to Boone? Jaremy and Dave, it might be a good idea since thre is a HyVee between cagri's and JJ's to stop there and pickup some stuff.
